California Public Utilities Commission and Energy Commission Engage Utilities in Discussion of Planning for Climate Change and Implementing Climate Readiness Strategies

On July 27, 2015, a Climate Adaptation Workshop co-hosted by the California Public Utilities Commission and the California Energy Commission engaged Commissioners, Governor Brown’s senior advisor, and energy sector stakeholders, including investor-owned utilities (IOUs) and publicly-owned utilities (POUs), in a conversation about climate-related risks to the energy system, adaptation planning, and implementation of climate readiness strategies. This ground-breaking workshop included presentations by scientists, research managers, users of science-based planning tools, regional and national industry experts, and utility representatives. Executives from Pacific Gas and Electric Company, San Diego Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, and Southern California Gas Company presented their adaptation planning efforts and participated in a panel discussion about how to move forward to ensure safe, resilient, and reliable energy services for California.
